Kwara State Announces 2024/2025 WAEC Fee and Warns Against Extortion

The Kwara State Government has officially pegged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fee for the 2024/2025 examination at N30,250 per student. This fee will be applicable to all students in their final year of senior secondary school in public schools across the state.

Breakdown of the WAEC Fee

The total fee of N30,250 includes the following components:

  • WAEC Charges: N27,000
  • E-registration Charges: N1,250
  • Administrative Charges: N2,000

These fees were disclosed by the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, during her address to the principals of all senior secondary schools in the state. The occasion marked the commencement of the WAEC registration for the 2024/2025 academic year, which took place at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School in Ilorin.

Government Stance on Extortion

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to address concerns related to the registration process, specifically warning against any form of extortion. She stressed that the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development would not tolerate additional charges beyond those officially approved. Principals found guilty of demanding extra fees from students would face strict consequences, as the Ministry is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in the examination process.

A statement from the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, reiterated this warning, urging principals to avoid any practices that could tarnish their reputation and the integrity of the registration process.

Focus on Quality Education and Teacher Welfare

In her speech, Modibbo-Kawu also encouraged the school principals to continue their valuable contributions towards improving the education system in Kwara State. She praised their efforts in building future leaders and enhancing the quality of education across the state.

Additionally, Modibbo-Kawu extended her gratitude to the principals for fostering a strong working relationship with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development. She called on them to support the current administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has shown a strong commitment to the welfare of teachers and citizens alike.

Governor’s Support for Education

The Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, also spoke at the event, expressing appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his significant strides in improving the education sector. Abubakar highlighted the administration’s efforts to enhance the welfare of teachers and the development of educational infrastructure, such as the rehabilitation and construction of schools.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Bake, similarly praised the Governor for his unwavering support in revitalizing the education sector, urging teachers to maintain professionalism and diligence in their duties.

Teachers’ Commitment to Quality Education

The President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCPSS), Kwara State Wing, Mohammad Baba, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his positive impact on the education system in the state. Baba acknowledged the improvements in teachers’ welfare, including prompt salary payments, promotions, and the rehabilitation of schools. He assured the Governor that teachers in Kwara would continue to fulfill their roles diligently and justifiably.

With the announcement of the N30,250 WAEC fee, the Kwara State Government has set a clear structure for students in the 2024/2025 academic year. The warning against extortion reflects the government’s commitment to upholding integrity throughout the WAEC registration process. Additionally, the ongoing efforts to improve education and support for teachers underscore the state’s dedication to enhancing the educational system for the benefit of all students.
