You’ve checked your result. Maybe it’s 180 instead of 250, and your dream of studying Medicine at UNILAG feels shattered. Or maybe your preferred course is suddenly showing “Not Admitted” on CAPS. You’re wondering: What now?
Don’t panic.
JAMB 2025 Change of Course and Institution is officially live, and for many students, this is where the real journey begins.
This isn’t failure it’s strategy. And we’re here to walk you through it.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated the Change of Course and Institution portal on CAPS for 2025 UTME and Direct Entry candidates.
This process allows you to:
-
Switch to a university where your score meets the cut-off mark
-
Change your course to one with available slots
-
Fix errors made during JAMB registration
-
Improve your admission chances without rewriting UTME
How Does It Work?
JAMB CAPS (Central Admission Processing System) enables universities to offer admission based on:
-
Your UTME score
-
Your O’level combination
-
The availability of space in each course
So, if you applied for Law in UI with 215, but the cut-off is 270, you can now:
-
Change institution to a school where Law accepts 215
-
Or switch courses within UI to a less competitive department (e.g., Philosophy or Education)
This move must be done on CAPS not by guesswork or “waiting to see.”
Who Should Consider a Change?
You need to act fast if:
-
Your CAPS status shows “Not Admitted”
-
You didn’t meet the cut-off for your school/course
-
You applied to a competitive program like Medicine, Law, Engineering, Nursing, etc.
-
Your first-choice school has already closed admission for your department
-
You used the wrong subject combination
What You Must Do Now
Step 1: Log into JAMB CAPS
Visit https://jamb.gov.ng/efacility
Use your email and password to access the dashboard.
Step 2: Check Admission Status
Go to “Check Admission Status” → Then “Access my CAPS”
If your status says:
-
“Admission in Progress” wait and monitor
-
“Not Admitted” you should consider a change immediately
Step 3: Visit a JAMB CBT Centre
You cannot do change of course/institution on your phone alone.
You must:
-
Visit an approved CBT centre
-
Pay the ₦2,500 fee
-
Submit your updated choices (course/school)
Don’t let cafe agents mislead you it’s your responsibility to choose wisely.
Mistakes to Avoid
-
Don’t change to a course you didn’t write the subject combo for
-
Avoid “low-ranking” schools if you plan to transfer later
-
Never rush without confirming the new school still accepts change-of-course candidates
And most importantly:
Don’t assume you’ll be offered admission where you’re not qualified.
-
Check last year’s departmental cut-off marks for your new school
-
Focus on less competitive state or federal universities (e.g., LAUTECH, UNIZIK, FUOYE, AAU)
-
Consider polytechnics or Colleges of Education as solid backups
-
